Volunteering at Almond
Almond is a school where parent involvement makes a real difference — not just in the classroom, but in the programs, events, and community that define the experience here. Most volunteering happens through PTA, but some roles belong to partner organizations like LAEF or the district. All of it matters, and all of it is listed here.
What we're actually running
Most families' first volunteer experience is an hour helping with art or lunch. That's valuable — but it's a small slice of what keeps Almond running. Behind every event and program is a team that planned it, funded it, and made it happen.

A lot of the most important work — reaching out to sponsors, planning logistics months in advance, tracking down volunteers — never appears on ClassroomParent. If you've only ever signed up for a shift, you've seen a fraction of what volunteering at Almond looks like.
Find your fit
Different kinds of involvement suit different schedules, skills, and interests.
Flexible & low-key
You want to help when you can without a regular commitment. One-time shifts are a great way to stay connected and contribute.
Event shifts, classroom support, Art Docent lessons, Living Classroom, Eagle Flyers, Helping Hands, Hot Lunch
Have a skill or resource to offer?
A truck, a backyard, a second language, photography, design. Let us know at info@almondpta.org and we'll reach out when the moment comes.
Team player
You want to be part of something without running it yourself. Committees are how our biggest events get done — you contribute, and someone else steers.
Walk-a-thon, Book Fair, Revenue, Room parents, Yearbook, Singers, Drama, Assemblies
Own something
You want to take something from start to finish. Event and program chairs plan, recruit, budget, and execute. More work — and more rewarding.
Field Day, Read-a-thon, Family Science Night, Ice Cream Social, 6th Grade Events, Green Team, and more
Have an idea? Let's talk.
New events and programs are always welcome. Some of our most beloved traditions started as a parent's idea. Reach out to president@almondpta.org.
Shape the whole thing
Board and standing committee positions set direction for PTA as a whole — not just one event, but how the organization runs and spends its money.
Board officers, Room Parent Lead, Staff Appreciation, Revenue chair, Historian
All roles
Committee and chair roles typically involve some combination of: researching vendors, coordinating logistics, recruiting and briefing volunteers, managing a budget, communicating with families, running the day-of experience, and handing off your knowledge to next year's chair. Most roles involve planning ahead as much as showing up.

Want to think even bigger?
If you want to contribute beyond Almond specifically, there are meaningful roles at the district and community level.
MVLA PTA Council — the council oversees PTAs across LASD, MVLA High School District, and Mountain View Whisman. A good way to connect with PTA leaders from other schools and share ideas.
LASD school board — elected positions that set policy and direction for the entire Los Altos School District. Board meetings are public and open to community input even if you're not on the board.
